Somewhere In Kentucky (Poem)

Somewhere In Kentucky (Poem)

Original Poem:

Somewhere In Kentucky

I found my soul
Somewhere in Kentucky
Until then, unable
To recognize it had left

Somewhere in pandemic
And lockdown
And fear
And isolation
And being called in to the hospital
To gown up
And cover all parts of me
I lost it–
I lost me.

And I was there for two years
In that dark cacoon
Just making it through
And I let myself go
And let go of things that sustained me
Or rather, many of them let go of me

And then
Two years later
Driving through the mountains
My two favorite kids in the back
Our bags packed
For new adventures and old friends–

I breathed in
And found myself again
Emerged from darkness
Somewhere in Kentucky
